Tiger of Malay — to stand at Newgate Farm

Newgate Farm colt syndicate has confirmed they will retire 3YO colt Tiger of Malay to stud at their home base in the Hunter Valley.

The colt by Extreme Choice — originally sold by Tyreel Farm on behalf of Ruby Racing and Breeding — fetched $255,000 at the COVID-hit Inglis Easter Yearling Sale of 2020. He has since become a Group 2 winner of the Sires Produce, Group 1 placed in the JJ Atkins, and a top-line colt in races such as the Caulfield Guineas and Golden Rose.

It has been a deep year within the 3YO colt division — Anamoe will likely take honours for champion 3YO and Newgate, owning many of the top-class colts of the year, have a bevy of options to choose from to stand. Tiger of Malay will stand at $16,500, where Ruby Racing will heavily support him for his stud career and return the progeny to the WA market.

Extreme Choice has proven to be a freak stallion — and considering his opportunities for performers were limited by fertility issues, Tiger of Malay will likely be a very commercial stallion for any breeder. A half-brother to Samizdat and Samovare, the family has been great performers in Western Australia, and further back to Denman, Kiamichi, Taj Rossi and Dark Queen has shown it’s not just a WA family.
