3-year-old gelding Bustler has become only the second 3-year-old in over 20 years to beat the older horses under weight-for-age conditions in WA during the winter.
The 2021 sales graduate has shown he could rise to the standings of the older horses very quickly with a victory over a field including stalwarts Resortman, Comfort Me and Red Can Man. However, it was the Darren McAuliffe mare The Velvet Queen whom Bustler had to match motors with late, from well back to come home with the victory.
It could be a clash we see repeat in the spring with both likely to be at the pointy end of Railway Stakes markets when they are framed in the future months.
